Plastic storage boxes- info page
Plastic storage boxes are a great resource for storing and carrying items. Compared to other storage boxes such as cardboard, plastic storage boxes offer a longer lasting and more permanent solution. Plastic boxes will not disintegrate in damp conditions and most have clip and snap lids that protect the contents from insects and the conditions of the storage location.
There are different types of plastic material used in the manufacture of plastic boxes, each offering different advantages and disadvantages.
The main materials used in the manufacture of plasic storage boxes include the following:
Homopolymer plastic storage boxes
Advantage - reasonably cheap and readily available, can be made in colours and clear. The majority of plastic storage boxes are made from this material as it is fatigue resistant.
Disadvantage- can become brittle and crack in cold temperatures.
Block polymer plastic storage boxes
Advantage- extremely strong and long lasting and can be used in extreme cold and warm temperatures. Disadvantage- expensive, only available in solid colours.
As already mentioned, most plastic storage boxes are made from homopolymer. This is the type of plastic storage box that is generally found in most shops. This type of manufactured plastic storage box is fine for using in light commercial use, such as an office environment or a light commercial warehouse workplace. The common use of these plastic storage boxes is for domestic purposes because they offer a cheap, readily available alternative to other storage boxes/products. They are also clear which means their contents can be easily seen.
